Oh, Oh, Oh........Danjiri Kishiwada

If you watched the video below, you should get the idea of what happens at the Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri. To recap, four ton wooden floats are raced around the town of Kishiwada. The highlight is to watch them speed around the corners. The danjiris are ornately carved and carry passengers in addition to the crazy man that jumps all over the roof of it. The danjiris are moved solely by man power. They are pushed and pulled by men, women, and children (however the children are in the very very back or way up front and out of the danger zone).
We were very fortunate to get to go to the matsuri. I was told that this was the first year that it was held on a weekend. Typically the dates fall during the week. Also this matsuri is heald as having people die, either from the danjiri falling over and into the crowd or the people falling off of the danjiri. Fortunately we didn't see or hear of any deaths. If you are interested in the Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri, you can read more about it here at the Kishiwada City website. Also here is the album, containing only 22 pictures. Oh and the title to this post is courtesy of Rich. He thought by mixing up the name of the matsuri that it became a really funny Japanese porn name. Oh the things that amuse us in inaka.

Why that's the obligatory photo pose in Japan... lol.

It seemed that every single person I saw in front of a camera there was giving the peace sign. :o)

    Good photos!
