Last Sunday Rich and I met Sarah in Osaka to go to the International Beer Fest. We were pretty excited b/c Japanese beer no longer holds that special unique foreign special feeling it once had and you really don't come by a variety of beers out in inaka. The fest was held in Umeda at the sky building and overall we were very impressed. Great variety of beer, food, and entertainment. Only downside was that it became pretty windy and chilly. Just a snapshot of one of the beer tables. Think these were actually microbrews made in Japan. Rich was so excited about the variety of beer, he just kept buying them, drinking some, and then handing them off to me when he spotted something else he wanted to try.
The food was great! This was an indian stand. They basically took some big metal barrels and rigged them to cook in. We didn't have the chicken, however we gorged ourselves on the samosas. They were fantastic!
We saw the banner for Johnsonville Sausages and raced over. They had an enormous grill and real sausages. We were already a bit full from the samosas and beer, however when the cook became amused with us taking photos of the grill he decided to give us a gift. He handed us each a sausage and then proceeded to take our photos. We will probably end up in an ad somewhere, "Buy Johnsonville Sausages, loved by gaijin so they must be good!"
Thoroughly stuffed now, we enjoyed the entertainment. There were a few dancing acts and a great jazz band. The beer continued to be guzzled, then a gyro was split amongst us, more beer, and then more samosas. By the end of the evening I couldn't put anything else into me without images of my body exploding flashing thru my head. Highly recommend going to this event the next time it's held. Two very fat and full thumbs up to the Osaka Beer Festival.
