Pre Malaysia Weekend

Before we headed off on holiday, we had a jam packed weekend. First Rich ran the 2nd annual Kinokawa Half Marathon. He had a respectable time of 1:51:43. Not too shabby for someone that didn't train a lot for it. I was really impressed. At the end of the race, Rich gave it his all and started to sprint. Unfortunately the man next to him was encouraged by Rich and gave him a run for his money. They were almost fighting to cross the finish line first. The Japanese man was bigger and basically cut Rich off and crossed in front of him. Pretty aggressive for a nihongin, however he congratulated Rich after. Our friend Gemma also ran the race; in a Momotaro costume. Momotaro is a famous fairytale and her costume caused quite a stir. Many applauded and cheered for her; even more so when she waved her plastic sword as she ran across the finish line.

After the race and a much needed rest, we met up at Boo's Bar in Wakayama for Nate and Rebecca's (pictured left) sayonara party. Boo's Bar is a small place near Nate & Rebecca's apartment. They had become friends with the bartenders and in fact the bar was only open for them and their friends; private party privilege. It's a bit funny b/c the bar only plays American 80's rock; it was like reliving middle school all over again. The party was fun and a lot of people showed up. It was nice to see so many friends. Recently many people from Rich's work have returned home or moved to new jobs. So this was a really large turnout. Pictured right is Mick, Katrina, Rich, and Rebecca. The photo on the left is of Mick, Dom, Kiera, and Rich. Final party photo is of Wade (I think), Dom, and Tonya. Nate & Rebecca will be moving to Louisville, Kentucky (Nate's hometown). Rebecca is from NY, so the transition to the south might be a shock. At least the southerners speak a form of English. We will miss them.
