Found: Female Mixed Breed Dog

Yesterday we got up early and headed to White Rock Lake for a run. Our intention was to meet up with a local running club and socialize. Unfortunately when we arrived there were hundreds of people running and biking all over the place. We didn't meet the group we intended, but did end up running. At the end of our run we headed to the car and was followed by a very cute dog. The dog stayed with us and we noticed there weren't any tags on it. Eventually we loaded her up in the car and searched the area for anyone looking for a dog. No luck. We headed to a nearby vet to see if they would scan her for an identity chip. No luck; no chip. We then tried a second vet in hopes that they might recognize the dog. No luck; and also no luck when the second scan revealed again no chip. We got her home, gave her a much needed bath and food, and then began calling shelters. No luck with the shelters. In fact they are all full and can't take her. Also we do fear that she could eventually be put to sleep at a shelter. They are supposedly "no kill" shelters. They will only euthanize the bad tempered or sick dogs. Since she appears to have a bit of pit bull in her, we worry that no matter what her temperament, she may be unfairly discriminated against and put down. We can't bear the idea of that happening. So now I introduce to you Numa-chan. She's about a year old and absolutely sweet, loving, and fortunately house trained. We intend to continue to search for her owner, however we seriously think that she was abandoned. We also plan to get her on adoption lists and foster her until a suitable owner can be found. Really we aren't ready for a dog; we don't even have furniture. I'm no fool though and realize that the longer that she is here, the harder it will be to get rid of her. So now begins the adventures of the newly christened Numa chan.

  1. OK, upon further research, we think that she is part Rhodesian Ridgeback. She's got that definite strip of hair down her back. We've looked at photos of the mixes and there is a lot or resemblance.
