(Bicycle! Bicycle!) Those were the words many Kyoto citizens heard from Rich as he breezed past them on a bicycle. He thought it was a funny word and continued to repeat it at random moments throughout the trip. It earned our group some strange looks. No actually, 4 large gaijin on bicycles earned our group strange looks.
Our last day in Kyoto and we felt like we really hadn't made a dent in all of the temples and shrines. So we rented bikes and cycled for over 6 hours and saw 5 temples. Honestly that is the easiest way to see a lot in Kyoto. The trains are great, however you have to make your way in and out of tunnels and transfer lines. Then you have to walk anyway. On bicycles we had the freedom to go wherever and at our own pace. Also you come across things on little side streets that you would have missed if you had taken the train. It seems like the Japanese love the parades! That little girl is so adorable. Looks like it was a great trip.
