Found

We have the unbelievable luck (or curse, depends how you look at it) of finding homeless dogs. First we found Numa while we were out running at White Rock Lake. We took her in and she has been an amazing dog. She's adorable and obedient. We absolutely love her. Then back in April we found Diego, (yes, in honor of San Diego). We were out walking in our neighborhood (one block from our house) with Numa when he attached himself to us. Diego was a pink nosed pit bull that demanded that he be the only dog in the house. We got him signed up with Operation Kindness. They took care of neutering him, shots, leash, collar, everything. We ended up fostering him for a week, until he could be placed in a permanent foster home until he is adopted. (If you are local and want a dog, he will be a great loyal dog.) We really liked Diego, however when he and Numa played, she would literally back her head away in fear of him. He was a pit. We was going to get stronger and we just couldn't bear the idea that he could possible hurt her. So we saved Diego and sent him on his way. Then this past Monday we found Oscar (really Oscuro, which in Spanish means dim or dark). Rich, Numa, and I went for a run in our neighborhood when we spot a dog drinking out of a potted plant that was getting watered by the water sprinklers (again, one block from our house). We didn't stop, however the dog decided to follow us. He ended up following us for the entire 30 minute run. Once we got home, we had no choice but to give it some water; running for half an hour in 80 degrees will make anyone super thirsty. Needless to say, we took Oscar in and have started to nurture him back to health. He is obviously a black lab mutt. The vet assures us that he has already been neutered (which means that he also has his shots) and is only about 9 months old. Poor thing has mange and worms. Obviously he was dumped or release based upon his condition. So we currently have a puppy. We haven't quite decided what we will do with Oscar. He and Numa play well, almost too much and to the point that we are annoyed. Currently there are some doggy dominance issues, however neither have enough meanness in them to take charge. I'll keep you updated on the outcome of Oscar.

Hey, but what's the deal ........... we have a pattern going with these dogs. We always find them when we are trying to exercise (is this a sign). Two of them were found a block from the house. I do realize that we live in an interesting area. We have transients, historical homes, families, semi-ghetto houses all around us. It's a mish-mash area and I'm sure a good place for abandoned animals. Maybe Rich and I are just labeled in the animal world as suckers. "Hey there they go. Follow them. They won't turn you away." That's the truth. How can you turn away an animal in need?
